The Learning Curve

As was to be expected, my classes and schoolwork are taking up much of my time and I am finding that I don't have much time left for learning about Paganism. I need to find a way to keep learning about it that doesn't take up much time each day. What might happen is that I will spend a half and hour reading or searching on the internet before I go to bed.

I really want to learn more about Paganism, especially more in depth information, and I am getting to the point where I don't think I can do that without finding a coven and learning from them. But how does one go about asking a group something along the lines of "I'd like to learn more, but I am really not interested in joining your group." I don't want to be disrespectful. I want to learn from a well established group who are serious about their religion. It is always better to learn from people, as it helps to give you direction in your study.

I am beginning to see that I am all over the place with what I am learning about Paganism. I have no focus and I need to find that focus. That is why I think it would be a good idea to find a group.

Along with all this, I am realizing that I am having a difficult time paying for school and may have to transfer to a less expensive school to continue and I really don't want to.

So much to think about today.

You could approach a group and simply say that you're studying and would like to learn more but that you're not interested in joining the coven. A lot of covens in my area are closed to new members anyway and it may be the same in your area.

This time of year, a lot of reporters and other writers approach pagans (esp witches) about their beliefs so they may be expecting to open up about things this time of year.

I'm currently reading Spirit of the Witch by Raven Grimassi and it's aimed at more intermediate-level witches (ie: assumes one knows the basics). It's about the spiritual aspect of being a witch but there is a great deal of information that I find applies to paganism in general.

You could also contact some witches whose blogs or websites you visit. Having a dialogue via e-mail might might better into your schedule.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to check into the book you mentioned.

I am beginning to work through an intermediate-level book called The Circle Within; I am planning on posting some of the text & exercises, along with my thoughts, on my blog. You are welcome to follow along on the journey if it seems interesting to you. Also, I know its just one person's view, but please feel free to ask me questions, if you would like.
